Influence: The Currency of This Generation

Most Netflix users would agree that the app is slowly turning into a platform filled with gay and trans movies, series, and even cartoons. Just like many others, I and my friend Oryima were talking about how it’s becoming so normal that people don’t even realize this is a form of agenda. They think it’s just entertainment  but the truth is, media is powerful. Culture, mindsets, and ideologies can be shaped through it without you even noticing.

It started small  a few scenes here, a random character there and now it’s full-blown movies, series, and even kids’ content carrying the same message. And while I understand that’s their reality in that part of the world, what’s alarming is the desperation. Why the need to force it into every production? It’s becoming tiring. I even saw a meme that said, “You’ll be enjoying a Netflix show, and out of nowhere, two same-sex characters start kissing.” It’s super uncomfortable for those of us who don’t share that worldview.

And here’s the thing  the more people keep watching, the more they’ll get used to it. They’ll start saying, “It’s just TV.” But that’s exactly how influence works. Slowly, subconsciously, what once felt strange starts feeling normal. And before long, an entire generation starts accepting ideologies they never paused to question.

When Elon Musk tweeted that Netflix was actively pushing transgender narratives to kids through cartoons and told users to unsubscribe, within days Netflix’s stock plummeted. They lost billions of dollars. Just one man with influence moved a mountain that millions had only murmured about. That’s the power of influence.

And that’s the real issue here  not even Netflix, but the fact that so many believers today underestimate what it means to carry influence. Religion has made too many people timid  quiet, fearful, and overly “humble.” We’ve forgotten that the Spirit of God in us is not a spirit of fear but of power and courage.

How will we ever shift culture or birth God’s agenda on earth if we keep playing small? The system has programmed us to live only for survival, but we were never called to just survive. We were called to shine.

Imagine if you and I, as believers in the secular world, gained real influence in our fields. Who’s to say things wouldn’t be different? influence isn’t about fame  it’s about impact. And right now, the people with the loudest voices are the ones shaping minds, redefining morality, and rewriting truth.

Meanwhile, those of us who say we carry light are hiding it, apologizing for existing, and letting darkness fill the airwaves. Why? Did the Spirit of God make you weak? No. So why act like it?

If at this point in your life you’re still wallowing in self-pity because of what happened to you, I’m sorry, but you’ll stay stuck for a long time. You need to rise. You need to step into purpose, power, and visibility. Because the world is loud, and silence won’t save it.

We need people who aren’t afraid to stand for truth, influence systems, and speak boldly not with hate, but with conviction and courage. Influence is not optional anymore; it’s a calling.

And what is influence?
It’s simply adding Jesus’ value to whatever you are building.
Remember, Jesus never lived for Himself everything He did was for the greater good of mankind.
Whatever you’re building should carry that same essence  something God can use as a medium to touch lives, to heal, to uplift, to inspire.

And even if you’re not building something of your own maybe you’re helping someone else build, working a 9–5, or serving in another person’s vision let your essence and presence never be questioned because of the value you bring.
This can only happen when you live beyond the mindset of survival  beyond working just for paychecks and become intentional about service.

Because in the end, you’re doing it more unto yourself than for anyone else.
Putting in your best makes you a better person.
And as Scripture says, Whatever your hand finds to do, do it as though unto the Lord.

That’s where true influence begins.
When people can look at your work, your excellence, your consistency and sense something divine about you, even if you never say the name Jesus.
