Seeing the Problem is Half the Solution

Yesterday, I realized something interesting. There was a bad habit I used to do subconsciously, something I had actively decided to stop because, well, it was cringe and definitely not it. For a while, I hadn’t even thought about it, but then it hit me I had stopped doing it entirely. Just like that. I thought to myself, Uh, it’s been a long time since I did that. Thank God.

That moment got me thinking about other flaws or habits I’ve consciously recognized in myself. The things I once struggled with but, over time, faded into the background because I made the effort to change. And it led me to this conclusion: seeing a flaw is making it 50% solved. Once you recognize a problem, it no longer has the same hold over you. It shifts from being an unconscious act to something you’re aware of, and that awareness is powerful.

It’s easy to think that change requires some big, dramatic transformation, but most of the time, it starts with something as simple as noticing. Once you acknowledge that something isn’t serving you, it becomes harder to ignore. Your mind starts to pick up on it, and without even realizing it, you start making different choices. Little by little, what once felt automatic starts losing its grip.

Of course, awareness alone isn’t enough. The next step is making a conscious effort to correct the habit, redirect the thoughts, or break the cycle. But that first step realizing is often the hardest part. Because once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

So, if there’s something you’ve been struggling with, ask yourself: Have I truly acknowledged it? Have I allowed myself to see it for what it is? If you have, you’re already halfway there. The rest is just walking the path to change, one conscious decision at a time.
