Figuring Life Out as We Go

Let’s be real—most of us have no idea what we’re doing. We’re just figuring things out as we go. No matter how put-together someone seems, they’re still navigating life, learning on the fly, and making adjustments along the way.

I remember growing up, anytime I messed up or got something wrong, my parents would hit me with the classic “You should have known better” or “It’s just common sense.” And I’d be there, confused and frustrated, thinking, How would I have known better? I’m literally just starting out in life. Y’all have been through this stage already—it’s unfair to expect me to know what you know.

But now? I see it. Because here I am, doing the same thing—still figuring things out.

At the same time, I get it. Like Ecclesiastes says, there’s nothing new under the sun. Some people have lived through what we’re just now experiencing. They’ve seen the patterns, made the mistakes, and gained the wisdom. That’s where guidance comes in. The trick is finding the balance—learning from those ahead of us while also making room to figure things out for ourselves.

So maybe the goal isn’t to have it all figured out. Maybe it’s about embracing the process, staying open to learning, and giving ourselves and others grace along the way. Because in the end, we’re all just trying to find our way.
